A wood window is a set of parts that can each be repaired: glass, glazing, sash, balances, sill, frame and hardware. When one fails, the rest is usually fine.
That's why wood windows are so well suited to repair. Unlike vinyl, wood can be cut, spliced, reshaped and refinished — so rot in one corner doesn't condemn the whole window. Older wood windows in particular were built from dense old-growth timber that is more durable than most wood used today.

Replacing a wood window costs $800–$2,500+ installed, often with new interior trim on top. Repairing the part that failed usually costs a fraction of that. Wood-clad windows — wood inside, aluminum or vinyl cladding outside, common on Andersen, Pella and Marvin units — are repairable too; the cladding usually hides rot underneath that we can rebuild.
